A first-home buyer has paid $1.08 million for a 1950s home in Mount Gravatt East, securing a 640-square-metre property with a half-size tennis court for less than the suburb’s reported median house price.
Older Housing Forms Part Of Mount Gravatt East Story
The sale at 22 Nurran Street adds another chapter to the suburb’s stock of post-war homes, with the property retaining its original 1950s character ahead of a planned full renovation.
Mount Gravatt East, where post-war housing makes up much of the local residential landscape, recorded a median house price of $1.36 million in Domain’s June quarter House Price Report.

The Nurran Street home changed hands for $280,000 less than that figure.

Its new owner will not be moving into a finished renovation. Several hundred thousand dollars is expected to be spent upgrading the property after the purchase.

Three Bidders Contest Nurran Street Home
The house sold on 20 August 2026, with three bidders registered for the auction.
Before the property went under the hammer, the highest offer had reached $900,000. Competition on auction day lifted the final price to $1.08 million.
Michael Nolan of Ray White West End handled the sale.

The property includes three bedrooms and two bathrooms, along with one garage space and two carport spaces.
A rumpus room sits underneath the house, while the elevated block provides an outlook across the surrounding area.
The half-size tennis court occupies part of the backyard, giving the 640-square-metre property a feature less commonly seen alongside an older suburban home.
First-Home Buyer Plans Further Investment
While the purchase price fell below the suburb median, the buyer’s spending on the property is not expected to end at settlement.
A full renovation is planned, with several hundred thousand dollars expected to be invested in the house.
The Mount Gravatt East result was also among a group of Brisbane sales involving first-home buyers.
In Moorooka, another first-time buyer paid $955,000 for a two-bedroom home at 14 Wallace Street and also planned to spend several hundred thousand dollars on the property.
A three-bedroom house at 49 Colwel Street, Oxley, sold for $1 million with three active registered bidders, while other auction results were recorded in Hawthorne.
For 22 Nurran Street, the immediate next step is closer to home, with its first-home buyer preparing to renovate an original 1950s property within one of Mount Gravatt East’s established post-war neighbourhoods.
