Do You Know Where Mount Gravatt’s Name Comes from?

Mount Gravatt has been an established community for many years with warm people and many great things to do. It is certainly a wonderful place to live, but do you know where its name comes from?

Mount Gravatt was originally just the name of the prominent hill, which later included the rest of the suburb.

It was named in 1840 after Lieutenant George Gravatt, an officer in the British Army. He was commander of the Moreton Bay Penal Colony in 1839.

Lieutenant Gravatt died in Karachi, India in 1843, after transferring there with his regiment. His legacy remains in the form of Mount Gravatt, home to a warm, bustling community.
