A new dessert pop-up is coming to Westfield Mt Gravatt, with Koka Patisserie bringing its handmade fruit-shaped creations to the centre for a limited run.
The temporary opening will bring Koka’s trompe l’oeil desserts to the Kessels Road shopping centre after an earlier pop-up in Calamvale from Monday, 24 August.
Designed to resemble pieces of fruit, the desserts use the French trompe l’oeil style, which translates as “deceives the eye”. Beneath the fruit-like exterior are combinations of mousse, compotes, fruit inserts, curds, chocolate coatings and crunchy elements.
The selection at Mt Gravatt will rotate during the pop-up. Mango, raspberry, coconut, lychee, pecan and peach are among the flavours identified for the limited appearance.
Pre-orders are already available through Koka’s website, where customers can select items and choose a pickup date. Koka has not specified how long the Westfield Mt Gravatt pop-up will remain open.
From Calamvale To Mt Gravatt
The August opening follows Koka’s previous pop-up in Calamvale, bringing the patisserie to another part of Brisbane.
Behind the desserts is founder Hajer Ahmad, whose interest in the style developed after encountering fruit-shaped pastries in Paris. She went on to refine Koka’s own versions, with each dessert requiring several stages of preparation.
Individual components are made separately before the desserts are assembled by hand. The process can span several days and includes preparing the fruit centre and mousse before applying the chocolate coating and distinctive velvet-style finish.
The result is a dessert made to closely resemble the fruit or flavour it represents while revealing different fillings and textures inside.
Mt Gravatt Opening Set For 24 August
Koka has set 24 August as the official opening date for its Westfield Mt Gravatt appearance, which the patisserie also refers to as Garden City.
The upcoming run will give shoppers at the Upper Mount Gravatt centre a chance to find the rotating range locally rather than at Koka’s previous Calamvale pop-up.
The pop-up is being offered for a limited time, with further opening updates to be posted through Koka’s social media channels.
