Budding Creatives Invited to Exhibit at Mt Gravatt Showgrounds

The Mt Gravatt Showgrounds will showcase young Brisbane artists in the Student Art Competition, open to ages 4 to 18. Part of the 109th Annual Mt Gravatt Show, the event runs Saturday, 26 July, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday, 27 July, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Entry is free, with artworks to be delivered to the Showgrounds Church between 22 and 24 July.



Celebrating Creativity in the Heart of Mt Gravatt

The Student Art Competition at the Showgrounds Church on Logan Road is a valued local tradition. Children and teens of all skill levels are encouraged to enter up to five original works created in the past 12 months. Schools may submit 20 or more as group entries.

Entries must include the student’s name, school (if applicable), and category. Artwork should be unframed, no larger than 70cm on the longest side, and labelled on the back. Categories include drawing, painting, and sculpture across age groups from preschool to Year 12.

Entry Process and Key Dates

Students can enter online via the Mt Gravatt Show website or submit a printed form with their artwork. Deliveries to the Showgrounds Church are accepted on Tuesday, 22 July and Wednesday, 23 July from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., and Thursday, 24 July from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Entries will be judged by category, with first-place prizes, certificates, and ribbons awarded. Artwork can be collected on Sunday, 27 July, between 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., or from the Show Office the following week. Collectors must show proof of entry.

Bringing the Community Together

The competition encourages artistic expression and brings together families, schools, and the Mt Gravatt Show Society. Organisers say it’s about participation as much as achievement. Artwork photos may be used for promotion.

Visitors attending the show before 3:00 p.m. on Sunday will need to purchase an entry ticket. However, those arriving to collect artwork after 3:00 p.m. can enter free of charge. Parking is available near the church, with access via Logan Road or Broadwater Road.

Encouraging the Next Generation

Supported by local sponsors, the Mt Gravatt Show Society continues to highlight young talent. The competition showcases drawing, painting and sculpture, reflecting the value of arts in education and the community.



Guided by Queensland Chamber of Agricultural Societies rules, the competition promotes a fair, welcoming space. Organisers encourage families and schools to support young artists.

Annual Mt Gravatt Show To Be Held for the 102nd Time

The fun countdown is on with only a week to go until the 102nd Mt Gravatt Show at the Mt Gravatt Showgrounds! The show that reportedly “attracts thousands each year” for just one weekend will be on again this 29th and 30th of July. With competitions, awards, live shows, crafts, fireworks, animal nursery, and many more, it will be a vibrant two-day event for everybody.

More Than a Century of Iconic Tradition

Thousands are expected to come each year at Mt Gravatt’s iconic venue to celebrate this “long-standing tradition” in Brisbane’s southeast district. Since 1918, the Mt Gravatt Show has been livening up the suburb and showcasing the community spirit. The upcoming 102nd show is touted as something that will be bigger, livelier, and cooler.

Saturday highlights include the cattle competition at 9:00 a.m., woodchop competition (10:00 a.m.), Warsong Larp display (5:00 p.m.), educational fireworks display (7:50 p.m.), and monster fireworks (8:00 p.m.). Live evening performances for the day will be brought to you by the Bayside Brass Band at 5:40 p.m., Friesian Performance Troupe (6:20 p.m.), Agro and Ranger Stacey (6:30 p.m.), and Late for Woodstock (7:30 p.m.).

The Sunday highlight consists of the Big Rig Truck Show at 10:30 a.m. This year’s Mt Gravatt Show promises to bring you “Trucking Spectacular” with awesome big rigs on centre stage! Watch the exciting showdown of the mates who “Keep Australia Moving” as they compete for the “Rig of the Show” title. Six classes are said to be in the competition. The rigs range from generation masterpieces to today’s modern designs. This highlight purportedly never fails to “attract a huge crowd” each year. Must. Not. Miss!

Meanwhile, check out the other worthwhile highlights of the upcoming event, too! See the bigger and improved animal nursery where you can help bottle-feed or walk baby animals. Expect to see alpacas, cattle, dogs (working and pedigree), goats, horses, sheep, and much more. There will also be competitions between local artists on cake decorating, quilting, painting, photography, and other crafts.
