A young family has paid $1.5 million for a five-bedroom Upper Mount Gravatt home where the backyard gives way to bushland and koalas are regular visitors.
The home at 43 Granby Street occupies a 969-square-metre block backing onto Mount Gravatt Reserve, combining an unusually green setting with a two-level layout that can accommodate extended family. Four bidders registered for the auction, with three competing after bidding opened at $1.1 million. The property sold under the hammer for $1.5 million.

Where The Backyard Meets The Reserve
Much of the home’s appeal centres on its position against the reserve. Established trees surround the property, while a private walking trail provides access into the bush. The setting also brought some unscheduled attention during the auction. Two koalas were resting in a tree about 10 metres from the house as bidding took place, while another was seen climbing a nearby tree with a joey.

Torres Property selling agent Ricky Tan said the successful buyer had relatives in Hong Kong, with the home’s separate living spaces providing accommodation when family members visited. Upstairs contains the main kitchen, living and dining areas, hardwood flooring and several bedrooms, including a main suite with an ensuite and walk-through robe. An enclosed balcony looks towards the surrounding greenery.

The lower floor adds another kitchen, living and dining areas, a rumpus room, gym, storage and a separate bedroom-style retreat, giving the home scope for teenagers, guests or several generations living under one roof. Outside, the grounds include a covered patio, firepit, side driveway, carport and shed.
Bushland Without Leaving The Neighbourhood
Despite its reserve-edge position, the Granby Street property remains closely connected to the surrounding Upper Mount Gravatt area. The home falls within the Upper Mount Gravatt State School and Mount Gravatt State High School catchments, while Griffith University’s Nathan and Mount Gravatt campuses are nearby. Westfield Mt Gravatt, Mt Gravatt Plaza and Macgregor Homemaker Centre provide nearby shopping options.

Mount Gravatt Showgrounds, Hibiscus Sports Complex, QSAC and Nissan Arena are also within the wider neighbourhood, alongside the walking trails and lookout around Mount Gravatt. Logan Road, major bus connections and the Pacific Motorway provide links through Brisbane, with the CBD about 10 kilometres away.
The sale also represented a rise from the property’s previous transaction. The former owners bought the home for $1.17 million in 2022 before selling it for $1.5 million four years later. Torres Property listed a rental appraisal of $1,000 to $1,100 a week for the home, with council rates of $718.90 per quarter.
